About Chablais - General Info
Chablais Geopark is located in the Haute-Savoie, eastern France where it borders Italy and Switzerland.
Traditional Barge for Transporting Building Stone on Lac Leman The Geopark covers contrasting terrain from stunning Alpine peaks to the pastoral glacial terraces of Lake Leman, Western Europe’s largest freshwater lake. It is an area of comparatively high population density and has a strong economy largely based on sports tourism (winter sports, summer water sports and spa holidays).
An area rich in exceptional landscapes and wildspaces, you can discover varied and rare wildlife in the Chablais– the slipper orchid, the tetras and the mountain ibex. Furthmore there are a number of RAMSAR recognized wetlands and peat bogs.
Château de Ripaille With strong agricultural tradition, AOC cheeses and wines are produced in the territory. Historic sites such as the Chateau de Ripaille, The Abbeys of Saint Jean d’Aulps and Abondance and the Art Nouveau architecture of Evian and Thonon provide another face of the Chablais.
